I found pre-alpha chromium packages a couple of months ago (around 2 months ago). Before giving the repositories and some personal benchmarks i would like to mention that this is nothing to do with google chrome or crossover chromium.Google chrome is mostly from chromium which is open source. From the tests i made ,it was 5x faster than firefox 3.0.7 and 2x faster than firefox 3.1b.(But after final release of firefox 3.1, the fox might be faster,it passes the acid tests with 100 and it is the best firefox release i have ever used since 1999 :)) Anyways i will give you the repositories. One is daily build repo, the other one is more stable :
Edit your sources.list
$sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
and add those lines (change intrepid with jaunty or hardy if you use hardy or jaunty! )
This is daily ppa :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/chromium-daily/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
This is more stable ppa from Fabien Tassen :
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/fta/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
Installation of chromium :
$sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
PS : Packages contain a working web browser! It may have bugs since it is pre-alpha.Each tab has its own process just like windows version BUT use it with caution since crash detection at tabs do not work (at least i can't find a way to get it working : ) )
