Howto Rip Music From Audio CDs

I have been using linux for 9 or 10 years, and never ripped an audio CD before :) I have 2 hours to rip 10 audio CDs for my sister, research time included.I am going to use FLAC format (Free Lossless Audio Codec = F.L.A.C), i did a quick research and found dozens of applications for doing this stuff including sound juicer, ripperX, grip and so.The fasest and best looking one for this job was Sound Juicer and it is in Gnome from 2.10.The only thing that upsets me is, it depends on brasero.I am a Nero Linux addict, and i really do not like this part.Anyways, I ripped 10 audio CDs, and sound juicer completed the jobs in 1.5 to 4 minutes/per CD.You do not need to close, re-open the software so you can make fast rips like a CLI only application.

Install Sound Juicer (It is in official repositories.) :

$sudo apt-get install sound-juicer

You can run it via sound-juicer command or Applications > Sound & Video > Audio CD Extractor

When it opens, go to Edit > Preferences and configure it a little.

If you are going to rip more than a CD, i suggest unticking "Open music folder when finished" and ticking "Eject after extracting tracks".Select and output folder, Music folder is default.Select an output format, i choose FLAC here. And select a folder and file name hierarchy for the tracks which you are going to extract. You should also tick "Strip Special Characters".

When you are ready, put an audio cd into your DVD/CD rom and press CTRL + R (or Disc > Re-Read Disc). You will see the tracks list.Untick the tracks you do not want to extract and when you are ready, click "Extract" button. That is it.
