The desktop is the opening screen that includes shortcuts to open programs, folders and applications without having to navigate through system folders to find them. It also allows you to upload a background (wallpaper), which makes the desktop more colorful and lively. At times, however, the desktop wallpaper seizes to display generally because Active Desktop has been enabled. By disabling it, you should see your background, or you can change it if you want something different.
- Step 1Disable Active Desktop if you can't see your desktop background. To do this, click the Windows "Start" button and click "Control Panel."
- Step 2Double-click the "Display" icon to open the Display Properties console.
- Step 3Click the "Desktop" tab and click "Customize Desktop." Click the "Web" tab, and remove the check from "View my Active Desktop as a web page."
- Step 4Click "OK" to save the changes and "OK" again to close the Display Properties console. After completing this process, you should be able to view your desktop wallpaper. Move to the next step if you want to change your background.
- Step 5Right-click an empty spot on the desktop, and click "Properties" to open the Display Properties console. Click the "Desktop" tab.
- Step 6Select the background image you want to use on the "Background" window, and click "Apply." If you do not see the background image you want, click "Browse." Locate the image you want from the location it's saved on your computer, and click "OK" to upload it to the "Background" window.
- Step 7Select the uploaded image in the "Background" window and click "Apply." Click "OK" to save the changes. Your image will be uploaded to the background on the desktop.
