Howto Make Applications Start in Specified Workspace

Today we are going to learn how to make applications start in specified workspace with the help of compiz (For example : Firefox starts at Workspace 1, Deluge at 2, Virtualbox at 3 etc ).I do not know easier way to do this so you will need Compiz enabled + CompizConfig Settings Manager installed.

Open CompizConfig Settings Manager via navigating System > Preferences > CompizConfig Settings Manager.Go to "Place Windows" plugin and enable it.Inside "Place Window" plugin click "Fixed Window Placement" tab.Click "New" button under the "Windows with fixed viewport"

Click "+" button, you will see "Edit Match" window opened. At Type field be sure "Window Class" is selected. There is a "Grab" button near value field.Open the software you are going to write the rules for (for example firefox), then click "Grab" button and click firefox's (or the software you are going to write the rules for) window. After you are done, click "Add" button. Now select the X or Y viewports. Here X viewports represents horizontal line of workspaces, so if you are using horizontal workspaces play with X viewports and do not touch Y.(So if you want firefox to start at Workspace 2, then select 2 at X viewport section). If you are finished, click Close button.
