
You must have noticed ridges on F and J buttons on a QWERTY keypad. They help in touch typing by defining the home position of your fingers.

The way your home position in touch typing is ASDF for left hand and JKL; for right hand.
So by having ridges on F and J keys you can position your fingers properly on your keypad without looking on it.
