OpenOffice 3.1 For Ubuntu

Openoffice 3.1 was recently released as you know.It brings a wide range of new features and bugfixes.It will be included at next release of Ubuntu since Ubuntu is not a rolling distro.But of course you can use openoffice repository at Launchpad to upgrade/install OpenOffice 3.1 .Let's start adding the repository :

$sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Add the repository at the end of that file(or somewhere you want) :

For Ubuntu Jaunty:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu jaunty main

For Ubuntu Intrepid:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu intrepid main

For Ubuntu Hardy:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ppa/ubuntu hardy main

Now add the key :

$sudo apt-key adv --recv-keys --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com D2BB86E0EBD0F0A43D4DB3A760D11217247D1CFF

Then update/upgrade your repositories :

$sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

And you are done :)

PS : You will see that the openoffice splash screen says 3.0, but if you go to about section of openoffice , you will see you are using 3.1.I guess Openoffice staff or packagers did not update the splash screen.
